BRAAG and Jeff have been an incredible resource, giving me the chance to try activities I never imagined I could do as an amputee. While I haven’t been able to attend many events since I live out of town, I’ve had the opportunity to go golfing and even scuba diving! Scuba diving especially was something I never thought I’d be able to experience, and I’m so grateful for the support and encouragement that made it possible. I look forward to winter sports this year!

I first met Jeff at an amputee mentoring event where he was volunteering. He was part of a Q&A panel. Jeff then spent time with many of us to talk one on one. I was so moved by his care and individual attention because it was so genuine. Then only a few months later, he invited me to come to a ski weekend. He was again volunteering this time to help kids that were amputees. Jeff thought to bring few adults along to show that we too can learn how to adapt to change, have fun and fall down too. He and his wife invited us to stay the night, dinner and ski the next day too. Jeff will go out of his way to help connect with us…In the three years we have known each other he has been to many rock climbing , running, surfing, and scuba charity events for many different causes. Jeff is extremely passionate to help others in a life of service. I know if I ever needed anything he would be there for me.

BRAAG has changed my life for the better. It has given me so many opportunities like scuba diving, weightlifting, stretching mobility and more…including volunteering at main music events in Charlottesville. It has been fun; thanks to the people who care and make the difference.

I first became involved with BRAAG more than ten years ago, joining in on events like a golf tournament, swimming lessons, and running clinics and races. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to experience even more adaptive sports through the group—including skiing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, and scuba diving. I’ve also been able to give back by volunteering at adaptive surfing clinics and participating in amputee support groups in the Shenandoah Valley. Through BRAAG, I’ve built confidence by learning new activities and sharpening skills in ones I already enjoyed. Just as importantly, I’ve had the chance to help newer amputees discover how much possibility there is in the world of adaptive sports and beyond. I’m proud to be part of this community and excited for the opportunities ahead to continue growing alongside other amputees.
